An authentic North Maine Woods experience leaving one with an appreciation of the experiences of the earliest loggers & the settlers who followed them into the big, wild woods of Maine. Lakes & streams are all around LL and you can catch lots of fish or canoe many bodies of water including the ancient Allagash waterway. Wildlife sightings of moose, deer, loons, beavers, partridge and other species happen all day long whereever you travel. Ray & Leslie are thoughtful and considerate of their guests assisting on whatever activities they may pursue. Canoeists can easily enjoy quiet ponds or get out on the big water. Bird & deer hunters have vasts tracts to stalk and most days see no other hunters in the woods except their own party. Ray & Leslie work very hard for their guests and LL is for anyone seeking the real North Maine Woods experience.

I don't know why it says 2 star hotel because this place is the best place you will ever stay. Ray and Leslie are awesome! and Leslie is a great cook! Gas lights in your cabin, shower room with hot water, Wi-Fi, motor boats and canoes and, we saw 3 moose the 2nd day we were there. I love this place, will continue to go to vacation there! 70 miles from the closest town you would not expect this, but, you'll love it!

Ray is an awesome host. We visited him once during the ice fishing trip. Cabins are clean, and warm. There is oven and gas light in each cabin. Location is a couple miles away from the Allagash lake. Driving to the lodge in the winter was totally fine with no issues at all. We asked Ray for the meal plan and that was above and beyond our expectations. Have you ever tried Burgers from Moose? Experience once in a lifetime. Hope to see him this year too!

We have been staying at Loon Lodge almost every year for the past seven years. I'm not sure why it took me such a long time to post a review! My children have grown up going there each summer and consider the owners (Mr. Ray and Mrs. Leslie) like extended Grand-parents. To say it is a special place is an understatement. We have fed bald eagles, caught thousands of fish (I'm not exaggerating), hiked up fire towers and canoed and kayaked to our hearts content...and I didn't even mention yet that Mrs. Leslie is a phenomenal cook and Mr. Ray is a renowned huntsman. I agree with another poster, that I'm not sure why it's only a 2 star hotel...It's rustic and there might be a spider or two lingering on the porch, but isn't that all a part of the nostalgia? If my children were given the option of an all inclusive paid vacation anywhere in the world, they would choose Loon Lodge EVERY time.

Loon lodge was absolutely phenomenal! Ray and Leslie are great people and truly care about their guests. The cabin was cozy and wood was readily available to make fires. We had a great time moose hunting, and Leslie kept us moving with some superb food. All the moose hunting guides are great as well - good people and truly care about helping you get that trophy. Location is fantastic, with Round Pond being right outside your window. Highly recommend - I will be visiting again in the future!!

Home away from home, I felt like family the first day I got here. RAY, LESLIE, BO, ANDREW, and EMILY are all amazing people, guides and friends.

Ray and Leslie are great hosts! We were there for a 6 night stay for deer and grouse hunting, and while the deer did not cooperate, the experience was perfect. I have dreamed about a North Woods Maine hunting trip since I was a kid, and the trip met all expectations. Leslie is a great cook, and we were never late to her breakfasts and dinners! Our cabin was warm and comfortable, especially after walking 8-10 miles a day in chilly sleet and rain every day. Ray pointed us to good bird territory and we had good hunts, along with some incredible moose sightings. We are planning next year's trip already, and are barely unpacked from this one. Maybe we can pull a moose lottery permit next year!
